- 5 Clear the meter (5 min). Make sure the outdoor meter and regulator vent aren’t about to spend winter buried under a snow-slide zone or blocked by stored items — ice-encased regulators cause real problems.
- 6 Check your bill’s baseline (5 min). Compare this October’s gas usage to last October’s. A meaningful unexplained rise before heating season even starts is a slow-leak flag worth a professional look.
